On June 1-15, 2024, Katarzyna Kisiel, Eng. - a Master's student in Chemical Technology at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Rzeszów University of Technology and a member of the Student and Doctoral Association of Chemical Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering "IPSUM", from Prof. Paweł Chmielarz research group (Chmielarz Research Group) participated in a research internship in the group of Prof. Francesco Cellesi's group, which specializes in the application of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) in modification of proteins for the synthesis of protein-polymer bioconjugates, at the Politecnico di Milano in Italy.
As part of her internship, she had the opportunity to expand her knowledge on the synthesis of polymers that may have applications for the controlled release of active substances, as well as the modification of proteins by ATRP techniques. She also gave a lecture on enhancing the ecological and sustainable aspect of ATRP syntheses, through the use of naturally-derived solvents and polymers with self-repairing properties.
The internship was financed from the project entitled " Modification of natural plant-derived textile materials by ATRP techniques," obtained under the grant program " Student science clubs create innovation " of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (contract number: SKN/SP/569572/2023).
