We are pleased to announce the success of Katarzyna Kisiel, a second-year PhD student, at the international Milan Polymer Days (MIPOL2026) conference, held in Milan on July 1–3, 2026.. Our PhD student, a member of the Chmielarz Research Group and the "IPSUM" Scientific Society, was honored with the Best Oral Presentation Award dedicated to young scientists.
Katarzyna presented her work titled "Investigation of Carbon Quantum Dots in photoinduced ATRP: strengths and limitations". Her talk highlighted findings on the use of Carbon Quantum Dots (CQDs) as photocatalysts in photoinduced atom transfer radical polymerization. She provided a detailed comparison between metal-free ATRP (without a catalytic complex) and photoATRP (with a catalytic complex), analyzing their application in the synthesis of both hydrophilic and hydrophobic polymers.
The winners were selected by an international jury, which evaluated the young scientists’ presentations based on clarity, research excellence, and the depth of knowledge demonstrated during the discussion session. This distinction is a significant recognition of Katarzyna’s dedication and the high quality of the research conducted as part of her doctoral thesis.
Participation in the conference was funded by the National Science Centre (NCN) under the PRELUDIUM BIS 5 project „Węglowe kropki kwantowe w syntezie funkcjonalnych materiałów polimerowych z zastosowaniem technik fotoindukowanej polimeryzacji rodnikowej z przeniesieniem atomu" (UMO-2023/50/O/ST5/00104).
