On June 1-15, 2024, Kinga Ślusarczyk, Eng. - a Master's student in Chemical Technology at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Rzeszów University of Technology and a member of the Student and Doctoral Association of Chemical Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering "IPSUM", from Prof. Paweł Chmielarz research group (Chmielarz Research Group) participated in a research internship in the group of Prof. Elisabetta Ranucci, who specializes in the synthesis of polyamidoaminoacids and their use as flame retardant additives in cotton, at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Milan.
During her internship, she took part in research aimed at modifying cotton fabrics with compounds to increase its fire resistance, as well as characterizing and verifying the properties of the obtained materials, and gave a lecture entitled "Surface modifications via surface initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP)" on the possibility of using SI-ATRP methods in the functionalization of inorganic and organic surfaces.
The internship was funded by the project "Polymer nanocomposites with complex structures as scaffolds for bone growth and carriers in topical drug delivery" funded by the Empiria and Knowledge Foundation and the Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego under the Talents of Tomorrow program (Project no: 16/TJ_2/2023) and co-financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education as part of the project "Modification of natural plant-derived textile materials by ATRP techniques" in the Student science clubs create innovation program (project no: SKN/SP/569572/2023).
