Kinga Ślusarczyk, MSc, Eng. with Medal of Ignacy Łukasiewicz Primus Inter Pares for outstanding graduates

29-05-2025year

Kinga Ślusarczyk, a 1st year PhD student carrying out her research work in the Department of Physical Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemistry at Rzeszów University of Technology in the research group of Prof. Paweł Chmielarz, DSc, PhD, Eng. (https://pchmielarz.v.prz.edu.pl/en/group-members), as well as a member of the Student and Doctoral Scientific Society of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering "IPSUM" (https://ipsum.prz.edu.pl), was awarded the Ignacy Łukasiewicz Medal “PRIMUS INTER PARES”. The award is given annually to the most outstanding graduates of the university, who not only graduated with a high grade point average, but also attained additional achievements, such as conference lectures or scientific publications.

Ms. Kinga Ślusarczyk began her scientific activity as early as the second year of her engineering studies by participating in research work conducted by the KN “IPSUM”, under which she carried out research projects in four editions of the programme “Student Scientific Circles Create Innovations”, funded by the Ministry of Education and Science. Ms. Kinga Ślusarczyk's engineering thesis was also awarded first place in the 3W competition for the best engineering paper on water, hydrogen and coal. Furthermore, she also received funding for two projects funded by the Empiria and Knowledge Foundation in two editions of the Talents of Tomorrow program, in which she played the role of the principal investigator. The results of her special involvement in the research work include co-authorship of 10 scientific articles in renowned scientific journals from the Philadelphia List, such as Green Chemistry (IF5Y = 9.8) and European Polymer Journal (IF5Y = 5.3), participation in national and international conferences (including Milan Polymer Days MIPOL 2025) and an internship in Prof. Elisabetta Ranucci's research group at the University of Milan as well as receiving the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Scholarship for students three times.

As part of her scientific work, Kinga Ślusarczyk, carries out the research aimed at the synthesis of biocompatible polymers and surface modification of polymeric materials by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) techniques, with a particular focus on materials with potential applications in biomedicine, such as polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). Important aspects of her research include the use of environmentally friendly reducing agents, including ascorbic acid or visible light, to reduce the concentration of the catalytic complex used, which will significantly affect the purity of the materials obtained.
