Minister of Education and Science "Student science clubs create innovation" programme

09-04-2022year

We are pleased to announce that the Student and Doctoral Scientific Society of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering IPSUM running at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Rzeszów University of Technology under the supervision of Prof. Paweł Chmielarz became a beneficiary of the programme held by a Minister of Education and Science ‘Students Research Clubs creates innovation” for the second time. Within the second edition of the contest, IPSUM received funding in the amount of 69 861,00 PLN, which will enable investing in materials and chemicals reagents, necessary in laboratory work. The title of the awarded project is ,,Synthesis of conductive polymer materials inspired by the principles of green chemistry”.

The main object of the project is a synthesis of innovative and conductive polymer materials by applying methods of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) with reference to proecologic aspects such as using naturally originated photocatalysts, minimalizing volume of the reaction mixture, reactions in aqueous solutions as well as in fruit puree. Taking into consideration a broad range of interests and a number of IPSUM Research Club members, the project consists of numerous syntheses, concentrated on the development of four environmentally friendly synthetic approaches, based on ATRP mechanism. From the application point of view, the result of the project will be the development of innovative, and at the same time inspired by the principles of green chemistry, methods for the synthesis of anionic and cationic polyelectrolytes.

Experimental work will be realized in four students’ minigroups, coordinated by Ph.D students (Monika Flejszar, MSc, Karolina Surmacz, MSc. Eng., Angelika Macior, MSc. Eng) and academics (Izabela Zaborniak Ph.D Eng) – founding members of IPSUM Research Club, whose scientific interests concentrate on developing and optimization of ATRP methods on the basis of proecologic solutions.

We are encouraging to follow ongoing progress of our research work connected with abovementioned project here:

Every student willing to become a part of a community of IPSUM Research Club is warmly welcomed – registration is open during the entire academic year.
